The biggest events of these two weeks are the women’s and men’s singles. However, there are more tennis matches, like the doubles, which include women, men, and mixed. There are junior events too.
What Time Is a Wimbledon Tennis Match?
There are 679 matches during Fortnight. Every day, the Wimbledon grounds open at 10:00 am. On the outside courts, matches start at:
- 11:00 am
- No 1 Court at 1:00 pm
- Centre Court at 1:30 pm (on finals weekend, 2:00 pm)
A Wimbledon match will not rewind itself. Be on time!
How to Get Wimbledon Tickets
There are a few ways to get Wimbledon tickets. The best way is by ballot. Since 1924, there is public a ballot that residents of the UK apply for.
There is a separate overseas ballot, but there’s a limit on the number of overseas ballots.
For the ballot, they choose tickets at random. It is oversubscribed. It’s challenging to be the lucky winner of the ballot, so you should apply early.
The ballot is now electronic. It is open! You can register here now through the end of December.
If you are lucky, they will contact you by the middle of February and you have a time limit to purchase the tickets.
Didn’t Make the Ballot?
You have another opportunity, but you must act quickly. Other opportunities for tickets are with Ticketmaster, corporate hospitality, debentures, and the queue. Also, check out this site to view this first weeks package.
How to Get There
It all takes place at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (London SW19 5AE). The best route is through public transportation because traffic gets very congested.
Southfields is the closest Tube station. Then, it’s an easy 15-minute walk.
What to Wear?
While players have a dress code, the audience does not. Dress smart casual though.
Wimbledon takes place in the UK, so the weather will be unpredictable. Bring an umbrella and sunglasses.
Remember, you will do a lot of walking.
